Yemen Alert (UPDATE): PCC declares 90-day state of emergency, 72-hour blockade, on December 30; avoid all travel
Current Situation:
- The Presidential Command Council (PCC) government has announced a 90-day state of emergency in Yemen, taking effect in the early morning hours (local time) on December 30.
- The PCC ordered all military units operating in Hadhramaut and al-Mahra governorates to cooperate with the PCC and the Saudi-led coalition and to hand over all territorial control to the National Shield Forces.
- According to the declaration, the PCC gives the governors of Hadhramaut and al-Mahra authority to manage their governorates’ affairs and to cooperate fully with the National Shield Forces until the positions are taken over.
- The declaration imposes a 72-hour embargo on air, sea, and land routes at all ports and border crossings, effective from the morning hours of December 30, except for those officially permitted and authorized by the Saudi-led coalition.
- The declaration follows Saudi-led coalition airstrikes on Hadhramaut’s Mukalla port in the early morning hours of December 30, reportedly targeting weapons shipments intended for STC forces from the UAE.
- Additionally, PCC president Rashad al-Alimi announced that his government is terminating the joint defense agreement with the UAE and has instructed all Emirati forces to exit Yemen within 24 hours.
