Morocco Tactical: Pro-Palestinian gathering slated at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport at 15:30 on October 12; allot for disruptions

Current Situation:

  • The Moroccan Front to Support Palestine and Oppose Normalization has called for a gathering at Casablanca’s Mohammad V International Airport (CMN) from 15:30 (local time).
  • The event will celebrate the return of two Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) activists to Morocco.

Assessments & Forecast:

The event in Casablanca follows Israel’s interception of the GSF en route to Gaza on October 1-2. Participants were detained and subsequently deported. This has triggered celebratory gatherings to welcome GSF participants upon their return. FORECAST: The gathering outside CMN will likely draw a turnout in the low to mid-dozens and may contribute to localized traffic in the airport’s vicinity. As such, security officials are likely to be present to minimize disruptions and direct participants to prevent any impact on passengers or airport operations. Given that the nature of the event is celebratory, it is likely to transpire peacefully. Its impact on both passengers and airport operations will therefore be low overall.

Recommendations:

  1. Those traveling through CMN during the afternoon hours on October 12 are advised to allot for disruptions given the slated gathering.
  2. American and Israeli nationals and Jewish individuals are advised to maintain a low profile in public and avoid revealing their identities, as well as their religious and political affiliations.
