Israel Tactical (UPDATE): Authorities reportedly prepare to close Highway 1 at 15:00 on April 23 due to ongoing wildfire; remain cognizant of authorities’ updates
Current Situation:
- Authorities reportedly announced preparations to close Highway 1 in the direction of Jerusalem during the afternoon hours (local time) on April 23 due to intense wildfires in the Beit Shemesh area.
- Affected areas due to the wildfire include Tarum, Taoz, Mesilat Zion, and the Sha’ar HaGai area.
- Reports indicate that police have evacuated Eshtaol and Mesilat Zion, two central Israeli towns near Beit Shemesh, as brush fires continue to burn on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
- Reports indicate that the two fire centres are the Eshtaol forest and the Shephelah area near Highway 6.
- Firefighting operations remain ongoing.
