India Tactical: Traffic advisory issued due to Chhath Puja festivities across multiple locations in Delhi until October 28; allot for disruptions

Current Situation:

  • The Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) issued an advisory in connection with the Hindu religious festival of Chhath Puja, which will be celebrated across Delhi on October 27-28. 
  • The authorities anticipate congregations of thousands of devotees for Chhath Puja prayers across 49 ponds in Delhi on both days. Therefore, heavy congestion is expected near major ponds in various districts of Delhi.
  • The DTP advised commuters to avoid routes near multiple Chhath Puja locations along the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road from Lal Kuan to Tughlakabad Extension, Khadar Kalindi Kunj, Agra Canal Road, and Road No. 13.
  • The commuters are also advised to avoid the Grand Trunk (GT) Road towards Yudhishthir Setu from Shastri Park between 17:00-19:00 on October 27 and between 05:00-07:00 on October 28.
  • Roads in the Gandhi Nagar area, including the Shantivan Loop and the stretch from Laxmi Nagar to Kailash Nagar, will remain closed from 17:00-18:00 on October 27 and from 05:00-07:00 on October 28.
  • Meanwhile, traffic towards Sonia Vihar will be diverted from Nanaksar to Old Wazirabad, and traffic from Sonia Vihar will be diverted from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Toll towards Sabhapur Village on the days. 
  • The advisory further stated that no restrictions would be in place at the New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, or Nizamuddin Railway Station during the scheduled days.
