India Tactical: Authorities announce traffic restrictions in Kolkata for Durga Puja celebrations from September 21 to October 8; allot for disruptions
Current Situation:
- The Kolkata Traffic Police announced extensive traffic restrictions across the city for Mahalaya and Durga Puja celebrations in multiple locations in the city from September 21 to October 8.
- The regulations will be implemented in three parts for Mahalaya, during the Durga Puja celebrations and for immersion processions.
- For Mahalaya, goods vehicles except vehicles carrying LPG cylinders, CNG, Oil, and Oxygen will be prohibited from entering Kolkata from 03:00 to 22:00 (local time) on September 21. Goods vehicles will be restricted from moving along Strand Road and St. George’s Gate Road from 04:00 to 16:00 on the day. Goods vehicles are restricted from moving north from various intersections, including Rabindra Sarani and Kali Krishna Tagore Street, Vivekananda Road and Chittaranjan Avenue, and Manicktala crossing, from 04:00 to 16:00 on September 21.
- During the Durga Puja celebrations, all goods vehicles are prohibited from plying within the city with specific time windows for each day.

- Additional restrictions will be imposed during the Lakshmi Puja and Durga Puja immersion from October 2-8.
- All vehicular traffic not connected to immersion processions will be diverted from 15:00 until completion of immersions on the specified thoroughfares.
- Specific roads in the south, such as Harimohan Ghose Road, Garden Reach Road, Kalighat Road, and Roypur Road, will also have traffic restricted. No vehicles will be permitted to park on roads designated as immersion routes, including Rabindra Sarani, Strand Road, and Nimtala Ghat Street, from 15:00 until the completion of immersions.
