• The authorities announced closure of all beaches in the Northern Beaches area in Sydney on January 21, until further notice, following a series of shark attacks within a 48-hour period. 
• The Northern Beaches Council confirmed that all beaches across the Northern Beaches area will remain closed on January 21 and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. 
• The closures followed multiple shark attacks, including at North Steyne beach on January 19 and at Sydney Harbour on January 18.
