Americas Tactical (UPDATE): Hurricane Rafael prompts airport closures in Cuba, warnings in USA as of November 6; remain cognizant of authorities’ updates

- According to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC), Tropical Storm Rafael strengthened to a Category 1 Hurricane on November 5. The hurricane is currently located 105 kilometers (60 miles) east-northeast away from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands and 370 kilometers (230 miles) south-southeast from Havana, Cuba. Hurricane Rafael is currently moving northwest with sustained winds of 140 kmph (85 mph).
- Authorities in Cuba have announced the closure of Aeropuerto Internacional Jose Marti (HAV) in Havana, Aeropuerto Juan Gualberto Gomez (VRA) in Varadero, Aeropuerto Internacional Vilo Acuna (CYO) in Cayo Largo del Sur, and Aeropuerto Rafael Cabrera Mustelier (GER) in Nueva Gerona. The closures are slated from 00:01 (local time) on November 5 and 12:00 on November 7.
