Israel Alert (UPDATE): Two terrorists neutralized after five killed, 12 wounded in shooting attack at Jerusalem’s Ramot Junction on September 8; avoid all travel

Latest developments: 

  • Israel’s Magen David Adom (MDA) stated that five individuals were killed, and 12 were wounded to varying degrees in the shooting attack at the Ramot Junction on Yigal Yadin Street in northern Jerusalem during the morning hours (local time) on September 8. 
  • According to initial investigations, the perpetrators are Palestinians from the West Bank who entered Israel illegally. One is reportedly from al-Qubeiba, and the second from Qatanna, both of which are located outside the security barrier and within ten km of the attack site. 
  • The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced during the late morning hours that IDF troops and police forces have been dispatched to the Ramot Junction area to search for additional suspects.  IDF forces have also started encircling several areas on the outskirts of the West Bank’s Ramallah. 
  • Authorities have reportedly closed all crossings to Jerusalem from the West Bank in both directions until further notice. 
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly holding a situation assessment with security officials in Jerusalem.

  • Reports indicate that two terrorists armed with a makeshift “Carlo” submachine gun opened fire on civilians. Video footage of the attack depicts a large crowd at a bus stop before the shooting commenced.  
  • One report indicated that the suspects opened fire at two buses that were stuck in traffic. Images show bullet holes in bus windows and shattered glass at the scene.  
  • A security guard and an armed civilian shot and neutralized both terrorists.
