• The Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) Istanbul Youth Branch has called for a march under the slogan “Mustafa Kemal march for a fully independent Turkey” from the Ataturk Cultural Center at Taksim Square in Istanbul’s Beyoglu district from 19:00 (local time).  
• The march will end at the Dolmabahce Palace.  
• The protest is being held to commemorate the death anniversary of Deniz Gezmis, Yusuf Aslan, and Huseyin Inan, three left-wing political figures executed in 1972 in Turkey. 

The death anniversary of Deniz Gezmis, Yusuf Aslan, and Huseyin Inan, is commemorated nationwide annually by the CHP. FORECAST: The protest is liable to garner a turnout in the high dozens to low hundreds. Given that public gatherings and protests in Taksim Square are prohibited, the march may face opposition from security forces. Therefore, unrest and the detention of protesters cannot be ruled out. Authorities are liable to attempt to disperse protesters as they gather for the march, with the square likely to feature a bolstered security presence ahead of the slated gathering. Protests across the country led by CHP or CHP-affiliated groups are also likely.  

Those residing or operating in Istanbul on May 6 are advised to maintain heightened vigilance and allot for disruptions in the vicinity of Taksim Square given the slated protest and associated risk of unrest.
