• Activists and opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) have called for a demonstration at Kuwait City’s al-Erada Square at 20:00 (local time) on July 17.
• The protest is being called for to demand an increase in salaries, lowering interest rates on loans, and in general to demand improved living conditions.  

Similar protests by those critical of ruling lawmakers and/or those with socio-economic demands have occasionally been held at al-Erada Square, as was last seen on July 5 when retirees held a protest at the location. The latest protest has likely been called to pressurize the government to meet opposition demands amid the ongoing parliament session. FORECAST: Based on precedent, the turnout at the protest is likely to be in the mid-to-high dozens. The protest will likely be peaceful, although an increased security presence at the location is likely. Travel disruptions in the vicinity of al-Erada Square are likely from the evening hours onwards.
