Please be advised:
- Activists and opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) have called for a demonstration at Kuwait City’s al-Erada Square at 20:00 (local time) on July 17.
- The protest is being called for to demand an increase in salaries, lowering interest rates on loans, and in general to demand improved living conditions.
Assessments & Forecast:
Similar protests by those critical of ruling lawmakers and/or those with socio-economic demands have occasionally been held at al-Erada Square, as was last seen on July 5 when retirees held a protest at the location. The protest will likely be peaceful, although an increased security presence at the location is likely. Travel disruptions in the vicinity of al-Erada Square are likely from the evening hours onwards.
Recommendations:
Those operating or residing in Kuwait City during the late evening hours of July 17 are advised to allot for disruptions in the vicinity of the al-Erada Square due to the slated protest.
